This musical insect is a cousin of the cricket and the grasshopper. He is a vegetarian and usually leafy green in color to match the cherry and apple, oak and maple leaves on which he dines. Like the cricket, he has an over sized pair of hind legs and his head is adorned with a pair of thin, graceful antennae.
Mr. Katydid is the songster of the family and he makes his music by rubbing together his crisp wings or wing covers. With every note, he tells us his name Katydid, katydid, katydid.
