Walt Lang, age 8, of Riverside, Calif., for his question:
WHERE DO SPIDER MONKEYS LIVE?
Spider monkeys are noted for their ability to use their tails as an extra limb. The animals can hang by their tails and even pick up objects by curling it around them. Hanging upside down by the tail, the monkeys actually resemble huge spiders. ' Spider monkeys can be found living in the wilds in tropical forests "of the Western Hemisphere from central Mexico to central Bolivia. They live in groups of from two to 100 and spend most of their time in high branches where they eat fruits and nuts.
Adult spider monkeys weigh from 10 to 15 pounds and grow to be about two feet long, not including the tail.
Spider monkeys, unlike almost all other monkeys, have only four fingers and no thumb. Various species can be black, brown, golden, reddish or tan in color.
