Sarah Bowen, age 8, of Nashua, N.H., for her question:
IS THE DINGO A BAD DOG?
Dingo is the wild dog of Australia. Although their chief food is the small kangaroo called the wallaby, dingoes also kill sheep.
For this reason, the Australian government has spent large sums of money in an effort to eliminate the wild dogs. The government says the dogs are bad.
Scientists believe that prehistoric men first brought dingoes to Australia.
Dingoes are medium sized dogs. They are about as large as English setters. They have alert faces with bright, sharp eyes and erect ears. Their tails are brushlike.
Most wild dingoes have yellowish brown fur. But the animal's colors can range from yellowish white to black.
Dingoes rarely bark but they howl instead.
Breeders of the dingo report that those born in captivity and brought up with people make very good pets.
