WHERE IS THE LARGEST EARTH FILLED DAM IN THE U.S.?
The largest earth filled dam in the United States is Fort Peck Dam which is located on the Missouri River in northeastern Montana.
It contains 125.6 million cubic yards of earth. Fort Peck Dam was completed in 1940. It is almost four miles long as it stretches across the Missouri . The main section is 10,578 feet long and a dike section on the west riverbank is 10,448 feet long.
Fort Peck Dam measures 250 feet high. The reservoir behind the huge dam holds 19.1 million acre feet of water.
