Marcus Grover, age 14, of Decatur, I11., for her question:
WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE ON JUPITER?
Largest planet in our solar system is Jupiter. Its diameter is more than 11 times the diameter of earth.
Jupiter is surrounded by a dense layer of clouds. The temperature at the top of the clouds is very cold and it averages about minus 229 degrees Fahrenheit.
Below the clouds the temperatures go up. It reaches 10,000 degrees
Fahrenheit approximately 1,800 miles under the clouds.
Scientists have not yet determined Jupiter's surface temperature. But they know that its interior is very hot.
The planet gives off twice as much energy as it receives from the sun because of its intense internal heat. The temperature of Jupiter's core may be about 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
