HOW LONG DID LINDBERG'S ATLANTIC FLIGHT TAKE?

Charles Lindberg, an American aviator, made the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in a single engine airplane named the Spirit of St. Louis. The flight was more than 3,600 miles and it took 33 hours and 29 minutes.

Lindberg's flight started at Roosevelt Field in Garden City, N.Y., and ended at Le Bourget Field near Paris. Starting time was 7:52 a.m. on May 20, 1927, with the landing coming on May 21 at 10:21 p.m.

Funds for the airplane came from the citizens of St. Louis, Mo.

Ten days before the transatlantic flight, Lindberg set a coast to coast record by flying from San Diego, Calif., to Long Island, N.Y., in 21 hours and 20 minutes. He stopped overnight at St. Louis on this record breaking flight.

Lindberg was 25 years old when he made his historic transatlantic flight. He received $25,000 as a prize from a New York City hotel owner and international fame.
