WHEN DID THE BEATLES START SINGING TOGETHER?

Most popular group in rock music history was the Beatles. Four Englishmen made up the famous group: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Lennon and five other musicians formed a band called the Quarrymen in 1956. McCartney joined the group later that year and Harrison joined in 1958.

Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, together with a bass guitarist named Stu Sutcliffe and a drummer named Pete Best, performed together under several names. They finally called themselves the Beatles in 1960. Sutcliffe left the group in 1961 and Starr replaced Best in 1962.

During the early 1960s, the Beatles' style of music was influenced by American rock singers, especially Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. In 1964, the Beatles toured the United States and created a sensation everywhere they performed.

During the middle and late 1960s, the Beatles helped to give rock music a new direction with a new sense of melody. Their chord progressions were more complex and their lyrics more imaginative and meaningful than much of the rock music had been.

The group broke up in 1970.
