Welcome to You Ask Andy

Jeff Ingrain, age 8, of Great Falls, Mont., for his question:

WHERE IS THE WORLD'S TALLEST WATERFALL?

Highest waterfall in the world is Angel Falls, which is located on Mount Auyantepui, a plateau in Southeastern Venezuela. Angel Falls has an unbroken drop of 2,648 feet and a total height of 3,212. It is more than 1,000 feet higher than any other known falls.

An American aviator named James Angel is the man who discovered Angel Falls in 1935. An old prospector first told him of Mount Auyantepui and showed him gold that he had found in a stream at the top.

Angel and the prospector planned to revisit the area, but the prospector died and Angel was never able to find the location with the gold. But Angel did discover the falls when he was flying through one of the canyons of the plateau.

In 1949, an American expedition explored the canyon and measured the height of the falls.

Second highest waterfall in the world is also in Venezuela. It is Kukenaam Falls and it drops water 2,000 feet.
