HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE WARREN REPORT?
The Warren Report is a summary of events related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. The commission was appointed on November 29 and members took 10 months to gather testimony from 552 witnesses. The testimony filled 26 volumes.
President Lyndon Johnson named Chief Justice Earl Warren to head the commission. Other members included Senator Richard Russell, Democrat of Georgia; Senator John Cooper, Republican of Kentucky; Representative Hale Boggs, Democrat of Louisiana; Representative Gerald Ford, Republican of Michigan; Allen Dulles, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency; and John McCloy, former adviser to President Kennedy.
The Warren Report was issued in September, 1964. It concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone, shot President Kennedy from a window on the sixth floor of the Texas School Depository building. The report also said that Jack Ruby acted alone in killing Oswald on November 24, 1963 in a Dallas jail.
The Warren Report criticized the Secret Service and Federal Bureau of investigation and asked for better measures in the future to protect the president.
Critics accused the commission of not probing deeply enough into the possibility of a conspiracy. Many, through the years, have asked for a new investigation.
