Anna Mae Hoover, age 15, of Twin Falls, Ida., for her question:
IS STEVIE WONDER THE MUSICIAN'S REAL NAME?
One of the worlds most popular musicians is Stevie Wonder, who is a singer, composer and player of the synthesizer and other electronic instruments. His real name is Stevland Morris. Wonder was born in Saginaw, Mich., in 1950 and has been blind all his life. But he never let the lack of sight become a handicap.
Wonder recorded his first major success in 1963 when he was only 12 years old. It was a lively, rhythmic song called "Fingertips."
After he reached adulthood, Wonder's musical style became more complex. He created powerful rock compositions, such as "Superstition" and "Higher Ground" in 1972 and 1973.
Wonder writes music and lyrics and also sings.
Other early successes were "All in Love is Fair" and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," both of which he wrote and recorded in 1973.
Wonder continues to write songs about serious subjects, such as his religious beliefs and social issues concerning blacks, as well as light popular music.
