James McNamara, age 13, of DeKalb, I11., for his question:
WHO WAS THE OLDEST U.S. VICE PRESIDENT?
Oldest vice president of the United States was Alben W. Barkley. He served in the U.S. Senate from 1927 until 1949. Then, at the age of 71, he became vice president when Harry S Truman was elected president.
Barkley served as vice president until he was 75 years old. In 1954, at the age of 76, he was again elected senator from Kentucky.
If you guessed that Vice President Dan Quayle was the youngest vice president ever elected, you would be wrong. Quayle was 41 when he was elected in 1988. He was born on Feb. 4, 1947 in Indianapolis, Ind.
