Dwight Evans, age 13, of Lynn, Mass., for his question:
HOW MANY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS DID CASEY STENGEL WIN?
Casey Stengel was one of the greatest baseball managers of all time. He led the New York Yankees to seven world championships, including five straight from 1949 to 1953 and then again in 1956 and 1958.
Casey was born Charles Dillon Stengel in Kansas City, Mo., in 1890. He became a professional ballplayer in 1910.
Stengel's New York Yankees were also the American League champions from 1955 through 1958 and again in 1960.
In 1962, Stengel became the manager of the New York Mets. He was forced to retire in 1965 when he broke his hip. He was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1966.
Stengel also served as manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Boston Braves. He died in 1975 at age 85.
