WHY DO SOME PEOPLE GET ACNE?
Acne is a condition of the skin in which the pores, or tiny openings, of the oil glands become blocked. It usually involves the akin of the face, neck and back. Doctors don't know exactly what causes acne, and why some people suffer from it while others do not.
Doctors generally believe that activity of the oil glands increases at certain times and makes a person more susceptible to acne. Sometimes the pores become clogged and the secretion cannot escape. The oil than collects within the gland itself, causing it to swell. The gland becomes infected and red.
Doctors say there is no specific treatment for acne. However, special care should be taken to keep the skin clean. Frequent washing with soap and water removes tiny dirt particles that might clog the pores.
A balanced diet that includes all the vitamins also seems to be very important. Some kinds of acne are actually relieved by taking large amounts of vitamin A.
Sometimes a doctor will prescribe vaccines that may prove helpful. Other times treatment of acne with ultraviolet light and with X rays has proved beneficial in severe cases.
