Heidi Andrews, age 7, of Knoxville, Tenn., for her question:
WHERE IS THE WORLD'S LONGEST RIVER?
Longest river in the world is the Nile which flows for 4,157 miles from south to north through northeastern Africa, mainly in Sudan and Egypt. The Nile runs through one of the most important and most famous valleys in the world.
For many centuries, people have lived in the fertile Nile area.
Without this vital waterway, civilization would not have bloomed in this part of the world as it did. There are two main streams and sources of the Nile River. The White Nile receives its waters from the plateau areas of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zaire while the Blue Nile receives its waters from the mountains of Ethiopia.
Beautiful Lake Victoria in Uganda also sends water into the White Nile.
