Welcome to You Ask Andy

Bobby Boyer, age 13, of Tona anda, N.Y  his question:

WHAT WAS THE BATTLE OF QUEBEC?

The Battle of Quebec sealed once and for all the fate of the French empire in America. France was defeated at Quebec in 1762 and led to the Treaty of Paris of 1763 that gave  all French territory east of the Mississippi River to Great Britain.

About 2 million British colonists were living along the eastern seaboard when the Seven Years' War started in 1756. About 60,000 French colonists lived here, with most of them in Canada.

The Battle of Quebec started with 250 British ships that carried 8,000 soldiers. The actual attack started on the night of September 12, 1759. By dawn, 5,000 British soldiers had scaled the cliffs. The French fired too quickly at the British. When the French were near at hand, the British fired, reloaded and fired again. The French retreated in disorder. In 15 minutes, the fate of the French empire in America had been settled.
