Welcome to You Ask Andy

Jay Quan, age 12, of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, for his question:

HOW DO YOU DEVELOP ESP?

ESP, or extrasensory perception, is something that you cannot develop. You either have it or you don't. And, as a matter of fact, the evidence for the existence of ESP is highly debatable. If extrasensory perception does indeed exist, the way it works is unknown. There is certainly nothing that a person can do to develop it.

About a tenth of all psychologists today believe that ESP is a fact while another tenth reject it as an impossibility. The rest of the psychologists believe that the existence of ESP is an open question subject to a great deal of additional investigation. The debate will most likely continue until dependable and exact ways are discovered for controlling extrasensory perception    that is, for turning ESP on and off at will.
