WHAT IS PEGASUS?

Pegasus is a northern constellation of stars. Pegasus is also a flying horse that comes from Greek mythology.

According to the myth, Pegasus was born to Poseidon, the god of the sea, and Medusa, a horrible monster with snakes instead of hair. Athena, the goddess of wisdom, caught Pegasus sad tamed him.

Pegasus opened a fountain called Hippocrene when he stamped on the ground of the Helicon, the mountain where the Muses lived.

Athena gave Pegasus to the Masses, the nine goddesses of music and poetry. And she also gave a golden bridle to Bellerophon, a great hero, to use is taming Pegasus.

Bellerophon was able to kill the fire breathing monster Chimera with the help of Pegasus. Chimera was part lion, part goat and part dragon.

Bellerophon then tried to ride to heaven, but Pegasus threw him off and continued on to heaven alone. Today he lives as a constellation of stars.
