HOW MANY DIFFERENT MONKEYS ARE THERE?

So far, scientists have sorted and named about 200 different monkeys. But perhaps a few more of the frisky fellows have not been counted. The smallest types are only six inches long  plus the tail. Some of the large types are more than 30 inches long  not counting their long tails.

Most of the 200 or so different monkeys live in steamy jungles, swinging like acrobats among the treetops. All of them prefer to share life with a large group of friends and relatives.  The New world monkeys of Central and South America can hang and swing by their tails. The Old World monkeys of Asia and Africa cannot do this because their tails are not made for grasping.
