To the botanist, all plants are members of the Vegetable Kingdom.  The parts of each vegetable, or plant, have their special names such as leaf, stem, seed or fruit, In the kitchen, a vegetable or any part of a vegetable is part of the varied diet which also includes meat and dairy products 

To the botanist, a juicy tomato is the fruit of the tomato plant  The seeds are inside the fleshy pulp  To the cook, the tomato is classed in the vegetable or salad department of the family diet.
