Where did the Olymic Games originate?

Through thousands of years, the Olympic Games has woven a bright thread of sanity through the turmoils of human history  At times, the proud contest has been halted by prejudice and sidetracked by wars, but, were reinstated, mankind readily responds to its spirit of athletic competition 

The great tradition began in Greece, perhaps before the dawn of recorded history, The first written records go back to 776 B,C  The original games were held in a wooded grove on the Peloponnesus island which forms the southern part of Greece  The theater was on the left bank of the river Ruphiap about Il miles east of the town of Pyrgos  A few miles to the west is a shoreline facing the Ionian arm of the vivid blue Mediterranean sea
