The great statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886, which means that it is 75 years old  It was a present from the people of France and in Roman numerals carved in the atone it bears the date July 4, 1776 The date it commemorates, than, is the date of America’s freedom and, in spirit, the inspiring monument is dust as old as our country,

  Actually, the idea for which Miss Liberty stands is as old as human history  She represents man's age‑old courage to free himself from tyranny arid take up the rights and the responsibilities to govern himself  She holds her beacon high in tribute to the nation which, for the first time in history, achieved these ideals
