Welcome to You Ask Andy

Douglas Sopha, age 8, of Marmora,

Do toads make toadstools?

A toadstool is dust the right size and the right shape for a chubby toad to sit upon  In fact, it seems to be whiting there in the dewy grass dust for that reason  But Andy, who has seen many, many toadstools and many, many toads, has never seen a toad sitting on a toadstool  However, he once saw a small, warty toad squatting on the moist ground under a toadstool  But as a rule, toads and toadstools have not much interest in each other,

The toadstool is a fungus plant, cousin to the mushroom, Most of the plant is below ground  The fats pasty white stool is the fruiting body, busy making spores or seedlets for a new generation of toadstools  The toad is an amphibian animal, cousin to the frog  He squats on the ground and does not need a chair or stool
