Some of us think those wonderful little man‑made satellites are the only satellites there are, But this is far from the truth  The earth had a satellite long, long before man made one, In fact, it was orbiting the earth long before there were any people here to admire it  This old, old satellite is, of course, our golden moon 

A satellite may be big or small, but it must follow an orbit around and around a planet  We know that most of the nine planets of our Solar System have one or more satellites, or moons  Mars has two bitsy moons  Jupiter has a dozen  The earth has one big natural satellite and a growing number of small, man made satellites which orbit around and around us
