 The first part of the word means light, We also find it in the word is photograph, which/a picture taken with the light coming through a camera  The second part of the word photosynthesis means putting together  We also find it in the word synthetics which may mean plastics  These wonderful synthetics are made by putting chemical ingredients together 

Photosynthesis is the putting together of light and certain chemical ingredients to make the simple sugar which is the basic food of all plants  This wonderful sunshine recipe is carried on by every green leaf through all the daylight hours  The ingredients are carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil and the light of the sun is used to put them together to make plant sugar.
