Welcome to You Ask Andy

Why has the earth more gravity than the moon?

Every object has its own built‑in gravity, The more massive the object, the greater its force of gravity. And mass means the amount of matter packed into the volume or space which the object occupies. A heavy object has more gravity than a light object of the same size ‑ and for its size, our earth is the heaviest planet in the Solar System. It is also about 50 times bigger than the moon.

The gravity of the earth is so much stronger than the gravity of the moon because it contains so much more material. Though only 50 times bigger, it weighs about 83 times more than the moon. These factors make the earth’s gravity five times greater than the gravity of the moon. On the moon, a 200‑pound man would weigh only 20 pounds, a two‑and‑a‑half ton truck would weigh only half a ton.
