Which trees grow the tallest?

It is sometimes claimed that one of the giants in Sequoia National Park is both the biggest and the oldest tree in the world. This, however, is nor quite true. Certain dumpy bristlecone pine trees are older by perhaps a thousand years. A certain cypress in Mexico also may be older and, though not as tall, is certainly farther around the waist than the big sequoias.

Some of the giant eucalyptus trees of Australia may well be taller than the sequoias, though all of them have not been measured. And the lofty sequoia also has a cousin right here in America which often grows taller. This giant of the tree world is the California redwood which mar grow several feet taller than the sequoia and well may be the tallest growing tree in the whole world.
