Where is Tegucigalpa?
Find the Republic of Honduras in your gift Atlas. It is a small country of Central America and its eastern shoreline borders the sunlit Caribbean Sea. This very coast was discovered by Christopher Columbus on his last voyage to the New World. He landed there on August 14, 1502. Apart from a narrow strip of smooth plains and gentle valleys along the coast, Honduras is a maze of impassable peaks and mountain ranges.
Tegucigalpa, the capital city, is to the southwest in the midst of this rocky terrain; It is one of the few capital cities of the world without railroad connections. Here 3,200 feet above sea level, the people enjoy a warm and balmy climate throughout the year. Even in the rainy winter, season from May to November the temperature rarely falls below 46 degrees.
