How fast does the earth rotate?
Our big fat world turns around once in about four minutes short of ?1E hours. If you could slice the globe in half at the equator arid watch the
rotation, you would see that the outer rim moves faster than the center,, The same thing happens with a turning wheel,
Our globe measures about 24000 miles around the equator, Here the rotation speed is roughly 1,000 miles an hour. Let's put the two halves of our globe together again.
The two poles are like the slowly turning hub of a wheel. As w e move away from the poles, the rotation speed gets faster and faster until we reach the equator.
