Allen Patterson Jr.,

What is a double star? `

Some of the stars we see in the sky are actually two stars. The brightest star we see is Sirius, the Dog Star ‑ and Sirius is a double star. It is a system of two stars orbiting around each other.

Sirius itself is much bigger and brighter than our sun. Its companion is a. small white star not much larger than a planet. Since Sirius is known as the Dog Star, it seems natural to name its little companion the Pup. The telescope shows that many of the stars which seem to be one are actually two or three.
