Maybe our remote ancestors invented snowshoes and ice skates to trek across the frozen wastes. The first ice skates were most likely made from sharp edged bones. Much later, the people of Holland put their minds to skating along their frozen canals. And after several improvements, modern ice skates were invented.

The first ice skates had wooden blades and they zoomed down the canals of Holland in the 1~.th century. Ice skates with iron runners were invented in 1572 and they too made their first appearance in Holland.
