How does the sun burn without oxygen?

An ordinary coal or log fire uses up oxygen and gives off carbon dioxide and water vapor. But the sun is not ordinary fire. If it were made of the best coal and started to burn while they were building the pyramids 5,000 years ago, it would by now be a pile of dead ashes, The fire of the sun is a controlled atomic explosion, mach like the explosion which happens in a hydrogen bomb,

It is a furnace of nuclear fusion in which atoms of hydrogen are converted into atoms of helium   or so we think. This kind of radioactivity needs no oxygen to burn, for its energy is released from the atoms themselves, It is a nuclear furnace which has been pouring forth its radiation for billions of years and will continue to do so for billions of years to come.
