Welcome to You Ask Andy

kathy jones, age 11, cleveland, 0., For her question:

Are some stars bigger than our sun?

If the sun were hollow, it could swallow a million earth sized planets and still have room for dessert. But as stars go, our sun is merely average in size. There are Giant stars several hundred times larger than the sun and super giant stars more Than a thousand times larger. One of the super giants is antares, the bright star at the heart of scorpios.

If Axitares were to replace our sun, it would spread out beyond the orbit of mars. The Biggest star known is 2000 t1me8 wider than the diameter of the sun. It would reach out beyond Saturn and half way to the orbit of Uranus.
