Welcome to You Ask Andy

Craig domeny, age 8, of piedmont, calif., For his question:

What is a watershed?

A great river flows miles and miles to join the sea. It starts as a tiny stream And grows bigger as it goes. Along the way it is joined by many streams. All this Water is drained from the land. The river gathers water from both its sides, and some Of its streams have come from far, far away. In this way, the river drains water from the land for miles and miles around. The land which is drained by a river and its streams is called a watershed. All the runoff from rains and melting snow in a watershed is drained by the same river.
