Cassandra Harris, Age 11, Of Kenbridge, Va., for her question;
Why is a whale called a mammal?
When we think of mammals, we think of cats and dogs and other warm blooded, furry animals. The whale, however, scans to live the life of a scaly, cold blooded fish. Nevertheless, he is a mammal. He is a warm blooded, air breathing animal, and though he does not wear a furry coat, he does have a few bristly hairs to prove that He is a mamma1. What's more, the whale has one feature which belongs to a mammal and to no other animal. Mrs. Whale gives birth to live babies and feeds them on mother's milk. This is complete proof that the wha1e is a mammal.
