Jacqueline Bernard, age 12, of Oromocto,N.B., Canada, for her question:
Are there directions out in space?
When a space craft leaves the Earth, it travels up, up into the sky. The earthly directions are left behind, and the ship must find new directions from the heavens. This is not Easy, for objects in space seem to move and change places.
Science is trying to find a simple way for a space ship to stay on course across The vast oceans of space.
Our little solar system is shaped like a plate, and directions are easier to Find. The top of the flat plate is taken to be the north direction. The sun's North pole is on the north side of the solar system. The south direction of the Solar systm is the opposite direction from the north.
