Doreen Nelbon, Age 13, Of Stratford, Conn., For Her Question:
Is singapore an island?
The city of Singapore is on the island of Singapore, and both of them sit almost on the equator. One side of the island faces the malay peninsula, and its other shores are washed by the Indian Ocean. The length of the steamy, tropical island is 26 miles, and its greatest width is 46 miles.
Singapore is one of the most crowded areas in the world. Here fast meets west, for it lies on the trade routes between europe and the orient. Its harbor teems with world wide shipping, and people of many nations live in its city streets and in floating houses on its waterways.
