JOYCE josey, age 10, of Camden, So. Car., for her question:
How can it rain while the sun is shining?
Rain falls from the clouds, and the clouds come in many sizes. Some of them are big enough to cover the sky from side to side. Some are very small and some are only big enough to cover half a city. The rest of the sky may be clear and blue., and somewhere in the blue the sun may be shining.
A rain cloud does not have to cover the whole sky. It can be a city sized cloud which covers only a small part of the sky. If the small showery cloud and the Sun are in different parts of the sky, we shall get raindrops and sunshine at the same time.
