Robert Vizard, age 10, of Somerville, Mass., for his question;
When was Canada discovered?
Canada was discovered several times, but not all of its discoverers decided to sett1e there. Before the dawn of history, bands of Indians came across the Bering Strait and wandered through the new World. They were there when the bold Vikings discovered and deserted Canada about a thousand years ago. The next discoverer of Canada was John Cabot. This was 1+97, a few years after Columbus had discovered the new World farther to the south. Cabot was an Italian Merchant sailor serving Henry VII of England. He sighted Newfoundland and sailed on to land on Cape Breton Island. Like Columbus, Cabot thought he had sailed around the globe to Asia.
