Is it true that mosquitoes are born in water?
The mosquito is an amphibious insect part of its life is spent in the water and part on land. The eggs are laid on the surface of the water, usually on a lazy creek or a stagnant swamp. They hatch into hungry little larvae which live under water. In about one week, the wriggly larvae are ready to become pupae,
They come to the surface of the water and hang there, wrapped in their tough, crysalis shells. When the pupae are ready for the final stage of life, their shells crack open and out struggle the fully grown mosquitoes. After waiting for their wings to dry in the warm air, the winged marauders take to the air.
