Kathleen Tubbs, Age 11, of Madrid, Spain, for her question:
How many North American Indians still live in the wild?
In North America, the days of Indian raids, scalping and war parties are gone for good. So, in this sense, there is no wild Indians left at all. But WE still have about 650,000 of this Original American living in the land of their ancestors. A few live by hunting and trapping dust as their ancestors did.
The United States has about 100 and Canada has more than 2000 stretches of land set aside for the original Americans to live as they choose. Most of North America's Indians live on these reserves. However, more and more of them are taking their places in our modern world, and When we meet these people, chances are we would never know they were Indians unless they told us.
