Patty Aldrich, age 13, of Cottage Grove, Oregon for her question:
How hot is the center of the earth?
The center or core of the earth begins about 1,900 miles below our feet and so far we have dipped down a few miles below the surface. We have no direct evidence then of the care. However, our clever scientists can use a lot of indirect evidence to make soma educated guesses about the nature of the earth’s corn.
The heavy material down there is, of course, under terrific pressure from the massive layers above it. This pressure generates terrific heat, Some scientists estimate the temperature of the core to be about 2,000 centigrade degrees which is equal to 3,632 degrees Fahrenheit. Others estimate the heat down there to be a fantastic 300,000 centigrade degrees. The truth may be somewhere between these widely different estimates but nobody knows for sure,
