Which is the Dog Star?

In the summer the Dog Star is out of sight because it rises and sets with the dazzling sun. In winter it is the brightest star of the night sky and the brightest star ever seen from the earth. Its fancy name is Alpha Cants Major   A one star of the constellation Big Dog, The everyday name of the Dog Star Is Sirius.

Cants Major rises after Orion which is the brightest of all constellations. A row of three close stars mark the belt of Orion, There is a brilliant star far above the belt and another far below it. Following behind this razzle dazzle constellation is the sparkling Dog Star.
