Welcome to You Ask Andy

Ronnie Weiss, age 12, of Newport News, for his  question:

Where are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?

They were rated as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and these Hanging Gardens of Babylon must have been wonderful indeed. The great city of Babylon stood about 60 miles south of the modern city of Baghdad in Iraq. Its tall temples and splendid buildings have long since crumbled and become buried by drifting desert sands.

The famous gardens were constructed on a high terraced building. They were planted with trees and populated with singing birds from many lands. The towering terrace gardens in the desert city of Babylon flourished in the 6th century B.C. They were built by King Nebuchadnezzar for his queen because she was homesick for the green hills of her native land.
