Betty Lee Mcdonaldi Age 13., Of Fulton., Mo.,, For her question:
What is an osprey?
The lordly osprey is often mistaken for an eagle. His big body is two feet long, and his great wings may spread five and a half feet wide. His saber talons and his fiercer hooked beak mark ham as a bird of prey which catches and feeds upon live meat. He hunts along rivers, over lakes and by the sea, for the ospreys alias the fish hawks is a fisherman.
He hovers above the water until he spots a likely dinners and then down he plummets with a splash. In a moment he is up in the air clutching a slippery fish in his saber talons. The head and undersides of the big bird are whitish and his back and wings are mottled with browns.
