Marvin Tatte Jr.., age 6 Of Des Moines., Ia.., for his question:
What is the animal family of the armadillo?
The armor plated armadillos belong in the animal family dasypodidae. This fine sounding scientific name means the hare footed ones. This does not mean that the stodgy creatures can run like hares far from it. But their feet are shaped somewhat like the feet of the hare.
The family dasypodidae is one of several animal families in a larger group of animals called order. The armadillo family is in the order edentate, which means the toothless ones. Some of the anteaters in this order are really toothless. But the armadillo happens to haye as many as 24 teeth, set like little pegs in his jaws.
