Haw long does a volcano live?

Plot so long ago, a Mexican volcano erupted up from a corn field and in a few years bec&me a full grown mountain. Then it became quiet, perhaps forever. Nearby are hundreds of volcanic cones that may have been active for only a few years. Other volcanoes remain active for hundreds of years and some erupt now and again through thousands of years.

A range of mountains lives for millions of years. Compared with the mountains, the oldest volcano is just a youngster. An old volcano may seem dead for a long time. Then it may burst forth again with a sudden eruption. But sooner or later, it becomes quiet and sleeps forever
