Cheryl Lawrence, Age 10, Of St. Johns, Mich., for her question:
How big is a baby whale?
Though they live all their lives in the sea, the great whales are not related to the fishes. They are mammals, and all the mammal animals give birth to live babies and feed their young on mother's milk. The biggest animal that ever lived upon the earth is the blue whale, alias the sulphur bottom whale.
Mrs. Blue whale is the biggest mother in the world, and junior is the world's biggest baby. Mama. May reach a length of 100 feet and tip the scales at 150 tons. Her flippers are bigger than a tall man. The newborn baby blue whale is about 25 feet long. If he stood straight up on his tail, he would be as high as four tall men standing on each other's heads. And the whopping baby weighs as much as two full grown elephants.
