Welcome to You Ask Andy

Rick Barrows, age 11, of Junction City, Ore., for his question:

Is it true that music makes plants grow?

Plants move in graceful dances with the breezes. But until recently no Sensible person suspected that they respond to music. However, reliable scientists now report that plants do indeed respond to sound. There is no evidence that they twist or do any other kind of dancing, but some Scientists have proof that plants grow better when placed near certain musical sounds.

Sound is a form of energy, add sound waves follow definite and very precise patterns. Although We do not know how sound affects plant growth, experiments prove that it does. Far more experiments are needed before We Will be able to select the right records to coax our vegetable gardens to produce bumper crops Of lettuce and tomatoes.
