Joaeph Ozimek, age 13, of Albany, N.Y., for his question:
Where do robins go during the winter?
The red breasted robins are summer visitors in New York state. They arrive there in early March, and in mid november they are ready to fly south to their winter homes. Most of them will not leave the United states. Some winter in the Carolinas, others in Florida. Some winter in Texas and the Gulf states.
Mr. Robin does not choose to winter in the tropics. Our southern states are warm enough for him, and many of his kinfolk winter along the shores of the Pacific as far north as Oregon. Not all his relatives fly north for the summer. Robins are permanent residents in California and in a wide belt just north of the Gulf Coast.
