James B. Sumpter, age 13, of Charlotte, N.C., for his question:
Does every star have a solar system?
A trained scientist is far too clever to make a statement he cannot prove, and astronomers are highly trained scientists. They would not answer yes or no to this question unless they had checked, proved or found laws that prove that every Star must be the center of a solar system or has a family of planets.
On the basis of our present knowledge, most Experts suspect that planets may form naturally during the birth of a star. It seems likely that many stars have solar systems, and it is possible that many a star could be parent of a planet family.
